Askar 203mm APO

The Askar 203mm APO Triplet ED f/7 Refractor is a high-performance 8-inch aperture telescope with a 1421mm focal length, designed for both visual observation and astrophotography.

Askar 203mm APOThe Askar 203mm APO is an exceptional instrument for astrophotographers and visual astronomers seeking a large-aperture refractor with premium optics and mechanical precision. With its versatile design, high-quality glass, precision focusing system and robust build, this telescope offers a high-end observing and imaging experience at an outstanding value.

With a 20% larger aperture than Askar’s 185mm APO Triplet Refractor, the telescope offers a triplet ED glass objective lens provides superior color correction and sharp, high-contrast images. With a focal ratio of f/7, the 203 APO is a versatile instrument capable of capturing deep-sky objects with remarkable clarity, while its long focal length allows for detailed planetary imaging. What sets this refractor apart is its ability to deliver the light-gathering power of an 8-inch aperture without the astronomical cost typically associated with large-aperture refractors. Its low-dispersion ED glass minimizes chromatic aberration, ensuring crisp, well-defined images across the spectrum.

The Askar 203mm APO features a robust optical tube assembly (OTA), a dual-speed 3.5″ rack-and-pinion focuser, and a telescopic rear lens tube designed for optimized performance across a variety of imaging and observational applications. The focuser is EAF-compatible, allowing seamless integration with electronic autofocus systems for precision focusing. The rear lens tube is easily adjustable using a captain’s wheel, providing smooth and accurate optical alignment. The package also includes three CNC-machined tube rings, two dovetail plates (a 402mm Vixen dovetail on top and a Losmandy-style plate on the bottom) and a custom foam-cut aluminum carry case for secure storage and transport.

The precision-engineered focuser includes a 360° rotator with a clearly marked gauge, allowing astrophotographers to achieve flexible framing and precise target alignment. A large rotator locking screw ensures the camera and accessories remain stable, even under heavy imaging loads. The entire focuser assembly is CNC-machined with an anti-reflective internal design, eliminating stray light for enhanced contrast. Additionally, finder bases on both sides of the focuser allow for easy attachment of guide scopes and accessories such as the ASIAIR Plus.

Designed with practicality and style in mind, the 203 APO features an extended 402mm Vixen dovetail on top, which doubles as a strong carrying handle. The bottom Losmandy-style dovetail plate is widely compatible with a range of equatorial mounts, ensuring secure and balanced mounting. The CNC-machined tube rings are strategically positioned for even weight distribution, improving overall stability. When not in use, the retractable dew shield allows the telescope to be stored compactly within its reinforced aluminum case.
