The Astronomy Acres Remote Observatory complex is a new roll-off observatory rental opportunity under construction in Southwest New Mexico.
The complex is located just north of Rodeo, NM with easy access to restaurants, groceries and a gas station for those that choose to visit the location and their equipment. The area is home for many astroimagers due to the sky quality and is listed as being under a Bortle 1 sky by Clear Outside. This location provides many clear nights annually and has very steady air for good seeing conditions.
The Astronomy Acres Remote Observatory complex provides space for your tripod or pier if you choose to mount your telescope in that manner. If not, they can provide a custom steel pier made to specifications. Each telescope/mount combination will be provided with power, internet connectivity via ethernet with a private subnet behind a comprehensive next-generation firewall for security.
Each pier location will be equipped with a digital-loggers web power switch, 5 port ethernet switch, a UPS and small stand to hold a computer, power supplies and more. The onsite facility manager is responsible for overseeing and supporting equipment installation, modifications and security. Each owner of installed equipment is responsible for their equipment insurance. Equipment repairs after initial installation can be requested and will be performed based on an hourly charge.
Pier rental is priced at $500 per month beginning with the completion of the installation. Piers must be initially leased for a minimum of 3 months. Special pricing is available for 6 month and annual leases. A pier can be immediately reserved for $250 that will be applied to the first month’s rental upon equipment installation.
