Orion Telescopes and Binoculars Ceases Operations

In mid-July reports started surfacing that the California offices of Orion Telescopes and Binoculars had ceased operations and closed their California offices. There was no available official announcement, so details were from third party sources. However, at the end of July the Orion website was no longer available.

Orion Telescopes and Binoculars Ceases OperationsOrion was founded in Santa Cruz, California in 1975 and grew to one of the largest online retailers of binoculars, telescopes, and accessories. It experienced several ownership changes and currently has been owned by Optronic Technologies, Inc. The company purchased the Meade Instruments and Coronado brands in 2021 and, as of the writing of this article, the Meade website was still online.

There is no current information for owners of Orion, Meade or Coronado for future warranty claims or for new orders that were in process. As soon as we learn more, we will provide that information.
