The Rouz Astro Side-By-Side Dovetail Plates and Saddles can offer significant weight savings when carrying two telescopes due to their carbon composite design.
As the Rouz Astro team notes, “When mounting dual scopes, it’s best to not stack them as the extra moment arm can put a lot of strain on the mount and degrade the mount’s tracking performance significantly. And the challenge with many traditional metal side-by-side systems is that they are often very heavy.”
The Rouz Astro Side-By-Side Dovetail Plates and Saddles offer an alternative as they are CAD designed and made with FDM 3D print engineering grade carbon fiber composite material for maximum strength to weight ratio that can be as much as half of that of metal.
The typical kit weight is 0.8 to 1.3kg (2.0 to 2.9lbs) and are available in medium duty saddles designed to carry accessories up to 15lb (7kg) and heavy-duty saddles designed to carry accessories up to a 25lb (12kg) payload. The kits are modular allowing the design of a custom setup with various lengths and types of Vixen or Losmandy plates and saddles.
