Solar Snap is a new solar eclipse smart phone solar filter that that was developed by former Hubble Space Telescope Astronomer, Dr. Doug Duncan. The Solar Snap kit includes solar eclipse-viewing lenses designed specifically for use with smartphones along with the Solar Snap app offered in an iOS version on the Apple App Store and Android version on Google Play.
The Solar Snap kit uses solar safe lenses to ensure that no damage happens to your smart phone. It includes everything you need to easily photograph an eclipse. The process is simple, first download the app and open. Then put the supplied Velcro spot on your phone and attach the Solar Snap solar safe lens over your smart phone’s camera. The app will then instruct you on taking solar images and videos.
The entire operation is designed so that you can operate the app by viewing into the phone screen. This protects your vision from the direct Sun, as the phone acts as Sun shield. You should never look directly at the Sun without proper eye protection.
