The new Celestron dew prevention collection provides a wide variety of accessories to keep dew at bay.
Celestron Aluminum Dew Shield with Cover Cap
The Celestron Aluminum Dew Shield with Cover Cap protects your telescope tube in the field. The dew shield reduces radiative cooling of the Schmidt corrector lens to the night sky, thus keeping the lens below the dew point longer preventing dew formation on the lens. Additionally, the Aluminum Dew Shield increases image contrast by blocking stray light from entering the telescope for better viewing and astroimaging.
Each Aluminum Dew Shield provides a perfect, custom fit for Celestron telescope tubes. The exterior of the dew shield is a rigid, aluminum cylinder that will not fold, flex, or deform. Inside, a velvet-lined interior absorbs any additional stray light and excess moisture, creating optimal contrast when viewing and imaging. Attach the dew shield to your telescope tube with the two adjustable clips to ensure a snug fit.
Celestron has constructed the cover cap from durable yet lightweight aluminum. When your telescope is not in use, place the cover cap on your dew shield to protect your Schmidt corrector from stray dust particles. The cover cap also offers you the ability to quickly and easily acquire dark frames for imaging.
If you’re an astroimager who enjoys being in the field, you’re probably used to running cables out the front of the dew shield. Simplify and streamline your setup with the Aluminum Dew Shield’s integrated cable management slot at the base. This slot gives you an easy way to corral essential cables (like the ones for the new Celestron Dew Heater rings) without potentially allowing light pollution to leak in. Also, there are cutouts to accommodate dovetail rails on the top and bottom of the telescope tube, ensuring a good fit regardless of the configuration.
The Celestron Aluminum Dew Shields are available for the following applications:
14 – Fits 14” Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD, and 36cm RASA telescope tubes
11 – Fits 11” Schmidt-Cassegrain, EdgeHD, and RASA telescope tubes
9.25 – Fits 9.25” Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD telescope tubes
8 – Fits 8” Schmidt-Cassegrain, EdgeHD, and RASA telescope tubes
6 – Fits all 6” Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope tubes
Smart DewHeater and Power Controller
The Celestron Smart DewHeater and Power Controller prolongs your battery life by optimizing power usage for dew heaters. The controller gathers and analyzes information in real time to warm your optics just enough to prevent dew. The Smart DewHeater and Controller comes in two models: 2X with two ports to control two dew heaters at once and 4X with four ports to control four.
In addition, the Smart DewHeater and Power Controllers offer a power management solution for your telescope with 12V DC output ports to power a variety of 12V DC devices as well as powered USB ports (see the specifications section for each model).
The Smart DewHeater and Controller works seamlessly with Celestron’s Dew Heater Rings, which have a built-in thermistor to provide temperature readings of the corrector lens. Third-party dew heater bands or straps are also compatible; you simply need to add Celestron’s Thermistor for Smart DewHeater and Controllers.
At the heart of the controller is a powerful microprocessor that gathers information from the sensors, computes the data, and automatically adjusts your dew heaters. The controller monitors the ambient temperature and humidity using its integrated environmental sensor and monitors the heaters’ temperatures using thermistors.
You can run the Smart DewHeater and Power Controller as a standalone accessory. Or, if you want to view data from the controller and make manual adjustments, you can connect it to your Celestron telescope’s hand control or your PC. The controller works with NexStar+ or StarSense hand controls running the latest firmware or Celestron CPWI telescope control software, included with every Celestron mount.
The Smart DewHeater and Power Controller runs on a 12V DC battery (such as the Celestron PowerTank Lithium Pro or PowerTank 17) and can handle a maximum power of 240W (20A max current @ 12V DC).
Once they’re connected, you can control the power to each device individually with the hand control or CPWI software. Power down your connected devices without unplugging them from the controller. All your devices are protected by resettable electronic fuses if current draw becomes too high.

Celestron Dew Heater Ring
The Celestron Dew Heater Ring is another accessory in the line of new Celestron Dew Prevention products which permanently mounts to your Celestron optical tube, replacing your retaining ring so you’ll never be caught without it. It is available in 5” to 14” sizes and the installation process is quick and easy.
As the Dew Heater Ring replaces the retaining ring on your Schmidt corrector lens, it provides efficient heating across the lens. The ring is constructed of lightweight, durable aluminum and its rigid frame supports the cable circuity and the telescope’s Schmidt corrector lens. Unlike other heating bands or strips that may not completely heat the lens cell to warm the glass, the Celestron Dew Heater Ring heats the corrector glass directly, providing the most efficient transfer of heat to prevent dew formation.
Simply plug the ring into an external 12V DC power source for consistent, continuous heat that will prevent dew from forming even under heavy dew conditions. The Dew Heater Ring features two storage clips to keep the power and thermistor jacks secure when not in use while accommodating the telescope’s dust cover.
The Dew Heater Ring also comes with a cable management clip that connects to the telescope’s front cell. Corral the power and thermistor jack to prevent them from dangling and reduce unwanted pulls on the cable connection to the rings.
The Dew Heater Ring comes complete with:
– Dew Heater Ring
– Cable management clip
– Power jack extension cable
– Paper installation shield
To achieve the highest level of dew prevention while maximizing power efficiency, the Dew Heater Ring is specifically designed to be paired with the new Smart DewHeater Controller. The controller uses the ring’s built-in thermistor and its internal environmental sensor to provide just the right amount of heat to the corrector to prevent dew based upon the ambient temperature, ambient humidity, and temperature of the Schmidt corrector, which can dramatically reduce the ring’s power draw, greatly increasing battery life.
The ring also includes an extension cable for connecting the ring directly to one of the controllers’ heater output ports, or to a third-party controller’s heater output port. The ring’s integrated thermistor is only compatible with the Celestron Smart DewHeater Controllers.
Celestron Dew Heater Ring specifications:
– Max Power: 52 watts
– Power Jack: 12V DC barrel connector, 5.5mm/2.1mm, tip positive
– Ring construction: Aluminum
– Power Jack extension cable: 6″ long, 12V DC, 5.5mm/2.1mm barrel connector on one end, male RCA connector on other end, tip positive
– Thermistor Jack: 2.5mm audio jack, compatible with Celestron SmartHeater Dew Controllers
– Available in these sizes: 5”, 6”, 8”, 9.25”, 11”, 14”
Celestron Thermistor for Smart DewHeater Controllers
Take the guesswork increase your power efficiency with the Celestron Thermistor for Smart DewHeater Controllers. This accessory allows the Smart DewHeater Controller to deliver just the right amount of warmth for to your telescope’s corrector to prevent dew without wasting battery. The 6’ cable length accommodates a wide variety of configurations.
Easy to connect, simply attach the heating band to your telescope and place the Thermistor’s sealed probe tip under the heating band. Plug each cable into its corresponding port of the Smart DewHeater Controller. This thermistor is not required if you are using a Celestron Dew Heater Ring because the ring already contains a built-in thermistor.
