The APM Photo-Visual SD Triplet Apo 180mm telescope is APM’s next entry into the world of really big Apo refractors. This telescope fills the gap between the company’s 152mm Apo and the 203mm Apo.
The 180mm SD apochromat includes a large 4″ RAP focuser which facilitates astrophotography at the very highest level. With the 0.8x reducer/flattener, you can achieve a fast focal ratio of f/5.6 with full correction of the image field. This is an optimal prerequisite for full-frame photography. The SD optics enable a color-pure image, so that even bright stars do not show any color fringes.
As the APM team notes, “Of course, the telescope requires a really big and heavy mount. This makes the instrument only conditionally suitable for mobile use. For every observatory it is certainly a real eye-catcher. Our specially manufactured reducers and correctors turn this optic into a high-performance photographic machine!”
They also note, “The optical elements are essential for a telescope. But – just as important is the mechanical construction of the tubes with its internal apertures and the focuser. Here we have taken special care to use materials with particularly low thermal expansion. The pull-out is tilt-free and can carry heavy loads without any problems. An adequately dimensioned and adjustable dew cap is of course also included. The solid tube clamps supplied are CNC machined and also allow lateral mounting for further accessories such as viewfinders, secondary optics (guide tube, etc). A carrying handle for the instrument is of course also included.”
Included with the delivery of the APM Photo-Visual SD Triplet Apo 180mm telescope: are tube clamps; Losmandy rail; carrying handle; 4″ focuser with 1:10 reduction; 0.80x reducer/flattener; case and test report.
