Explore Scientific Interview with ATT Editor Gary Parkerson

Gary Parkerson, editor of Astronomy Technology Today Magazine who at 62 years old, embarked on an amazing journey to cycle to 48 states of the USA, spreading awareness of the 2017 Total Eclipse of the Sun, through astronomy outreach with carefully selected lightweight telescope equipment including an Explore Scientific ED80 in Carbon Fiber.

Gary was originally inspired to make this cycling trip across America while attending the AstronomyOutreach network’s StarLight Festival in 2014, when he met a cross country cyclist who was traveling through Big Bear. But his journey almost stopped before it began when he suffered a stroke.

Parkerson permanently lost a third of his vision, probably leaving him legally blind. But since he was cycling nearly every day to physically prepare for his trip, he was otherwise in great health, and it may be that his vision of making this journey and the cycling that saved his life in more ways than one.

Gary’s real life story proves that it’s never too late to live your dreams as he carries out his mission that has changed his life and the thousands of people he has reached with his bicycle, his telescopes, the sun and the rest of the stars…
